Engine Rocks is intentionally narrow. Hannah Wilkes founded it in Coventry in 2023 after recruiting engineers for automation houses, tier-one suppliers and small machine builders across the West Midlands. That means fewer “might be relevant” calls and more proper conversations about real contract scopes.

Most client bookings are at least 4 weeks, normal timesheets run weekly, and the usual payment terms behind the booking are 14 days from invoice.

CV
Keep the project detail in. Machinery, PLC family, CAD stack and site type matter more than slogans.
Location
Where you start from, what you will travel to daily and when digs become part of the rate.
Rate
Day rate or hourly rate, plus any shift, weekend or travel rules you will not bend.
IR35 preference
Inside, outside or case-by-case, with enough honesty that nobody wastes a call.
Stack
SolidWorks, Inventor, EPLAN, TIA Portal, Studio 5000, drives, HMI, robots or whatever you actually use.
Notice
Earliest start date, current contract end date and any holiday already booked.

How CVs are handled

No Mystery Sending.

Your CV is sent with permission, not because someone wants to look busy on a Friday afternoon. Rates are agreed before introduction and not shaved after the client shows interest. Once an interview is confirmed, the client is named, the scope is repeated and any awkward gaps are put on the table.

Engine Rocks will not pretend a role is outside IR35 if the working practices say otherwise, and will not hide a poor shift pattern behind soft language. You can say no quickly. That is healthier than being talked into a bad start.

Engine Rocks will not put contractors into vague scopes, unpaid trials, roles with poor safety arrangements, licence requirements the client has not checked, or umbrella-only assignments where the advertised take-home falls below lawful or decent market rates.
